Well, another weekend of college hockey has come and gone, and what did we learn? We learned there’s going to be a lot of competitiveness in the Big Ten, and some teams are starting to separate themselves from the rest.
- Mason Jobst is still Mason Jobst
Jobst scored both of the goals for the Buckeyes this past weekend, and has shown that despite the Buckeyes lack of ability to score goals out of the gate here, he still can light the lamp at will when he gets on a roll.
2. Providence vs. UMass is going to be a great game on Thursday and Saturday nights
Both teams are coming in to Thursday on a roll, the Friars are coming into the showdown in Amherst with a 5-1-1 record, while the Minutemen are entering the contest with a 6-1-0 record. Providence, led by an emerging Josh Wilkins, who has had a strong last four games or so will have a tough task on the road on Thursday when they take on Cale Makar and company. It will be a great measuring stick for how both teams stack up in the early going.
3. Yes, Denver looks great now, but let’s see…
The Pioneers are off to a fantastic start this season with a 5-0-1 record, but they have to go to St. Cloud State this weekend, then they host No. 1 ranked Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs for two the weekend after. It’s going to be tough sledding, but if they can get through with a split in the series I think we will be looking at them differently in two weeks time.
